You’ve surely all seen the breaking news reports circulating this morning – Chelsea will make a move to sign Dortmund striker Erling Haaland this summer, as per the ever reliable Athletic.
If you login to Twitter right now, pictures of Haaland is all you will be greeted with. But this is big news, and if true, really shows Chelsea’s clear ambition to get back to the very top as soon as possible.
Chelsea are also looking to sign a top class new centre back this summer, find out who is on the shortlist HERE!
Whether they would manage to pull it off or not is another story, with other clubs such as Real Madrid also heavily linked.
However, some of the concerns over the pursuit I have seen online base around the fact that Chelsea already have Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner at the club, the latter being an expensive signing from the summer just gone.
But in my opinion, those two names should not even come into the equation when speaking about signing Haaland.
The 20-year old striker is already world-class, and if you have a chance to sign the best and you want to BE the best, then you simply must at least try, regardless of who is might upset, or get in the way of.
Abraham has been stalling on signing a new contract at Chelsea for a little while now, so Haaland arriving would probably end his career with us. And yes, whilst that would be disappointing, not all of our academy players can make it here and if you give me the choice of having Abraham or Haaland, I’m sorry but I’m choosing Haaland.
As for Werner, I have belief in him, as I do Abraham. But again, I’m not stopping a pursuit to sign of of the greatest all-round forwards in the game just because I already have Werner. If anything, they should and could play together; Werner is always better playing closer to another striker in my view and would thrive off of Haaland.
I get the sentiment I really do, and I would LOVE for Abraham to make it at our club. But Roman Abramovich wants Chelsea to be back at the top again, and so do I. But this means signing the top players if we have an opportunity to do so.
