We have been expecting to hear any day now who the chosen winning bidders to buy Chelsea would be. However, true to fashion, we have been made to wait even longer, and so have the bidders.
According to a report from The Telegraph today, Raine Group, who are handling the sale for Roman Abramovich, went back to the Chelsea bidders since improved offers were lodged asking questions and seeking greater detail on some of their business plans and forecasts. The bidders have been given no indication on when they are likely to find out who has won the race.
Believe me, I am as frustrated about this as the next man and I am sick to death of the whole debacle now and just want to know who are new owners will be.
However, when you really look into it, it appears that the main reason for this delay is so that those making the decision on who will be our new owner – Abramovich, Bruce Buck, and Marina Granovskaia – can make sure they do their full due diligence on each group and make sure they pick the right choice and leave us in safe hands. And I’m totally OK with that.
I’d rather that than them rushing it through even more and not being fully confident that they were selecting the right group for Chelsea and the right group to lead us forward, so I am totally fine with this.
They all want to make sure that their last act for this club (IF they are leaving) is to leave us in good hands for our future, and they will leave a legacy on Chelsea if they get this right. So, if a few more questions and extra diligence is being done here on their part, then so be it. We must think of the bigger picture here and our future.
