Lukaku saga the latest shortfalls of Chelsea’s shambolic board

Romelu Lukaku, where did it all go wrong?

At the start of the summer, it looked to be a forgone conclusion that he would be returning to Chelsea.

The Premier League champions, a 26-goal Chelsea fan, a natural replacement for Diego Costa – a Manchester United player.

Chelsea look to have been chasing Lukaku for the past months, and there has been suggestions that Antonio Conte even wanted to sign him last summer. Yet, we sit here, on July 8th, with Willy Caballero as our only signing, and Lukaku sunning himself in Los Angeles with future teammate Paul Pogba.

You can sugarcoat it how you like, you can blame Mino Raiola’s preposterous agent fees, or Man United’s immense financial power; but in reality, the deal should have been signed and sealed months ago.

The inadequacy of our board continues to stagger me, Chelsea were once a superpower in the transfer market, a titan – we now appear to have no clear strategy.

Conte is rumoured to be ‘furious’ that Lukaku hasn’t been delivered to him on a silver platter, understandably so. He took a battered and broken, pathetic excuse for a team, to the top of the Premier League, yet he’s not being backed in the transfer market.

Marina Granovskaia was previously branded Chelsea’s ‘iron lady’. Recently, she has been inefficient, and inept. She, Michael Emenalo, and the rest of the Chelsea board, need to get their acts together, or face a repeat of the 2015/16 campaign.

Tiemoue Bakayoko has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea for several months, yet the deal still hasn’t gone through. Our negotiations with Monaco are going at a snails pace, it’s like we’re running through a sea of peanut butter.

There is no time to lick our wounds, we jet off for pre-season in ten days time, we need to act – fast. Andrea Belotti, Alvaro Morata, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Fernando Llorente, Salomon Kalou, ANYONE.

In a market where Wolves can sign Ruben Neves, who was courted by all of the European heavyweights, we can do better than a former Manchester City reserve goalkeeper on a free transfer, who has no hair.

It’s time for Chelsea to show the world that we’re back, and we mean business. It’s time to spend some chuffing money.
