Listen, as the news breaks that it is actually PSG who are closing in on signing Achraf Hakimi this summer, after last week it being Chelsea who were closing in, I’m here to tell you we do not need to go for a Plan B on this.
I was actually for signing Hakimi, because I believed that if this is a priority position for Thomas Tuchel then we should back him to start with, but other than that Hakimi is a top class player who would add extra quality to any team that he joins, and if you have a chance to sign such a talent that will clearly benefit the team then you do it.
Chelsea are also interested in signing Jack Grealish this summer, you can read the full story here.
However, it appears that Chelsea didn’t want him that much as PSG are about to pay 70m euros to sign him, and Chelsea were offering much less plus a player.
Perhaps this lack of intensity to sign him means that Tuchel and Chelsea are ready to show confidence and trust in a player they already have? A certain Tino Livramento, who Tuchel has already shown trust in to bring him into his squad last season, and also have him in senior training regularly.
Livramento for me over going for a backup to Hakimi. Adama Traore has been reliably reported by The Telegraph as being an alternative option, but he doesn’t give me the same feels as Hakimi does. I believe he is a very good player, but he is an impact sub for us rather than anything else I believe, and that is no more than what Livramento will bring you, who is build for the right wing back role.
He has proven to be a very competent right wing back for Chelsea at youth level, and bringing him into the senior team this season will not only convince him to sign a new contract with his current deal running out next summer, it will show him that the club and manager trust him enough and rate him enough to come in and do more than a good job.
I rate him highly and have watched him play a lot at youth level, I believe he more than has what it takes to slot into Chelsea’s senior squad this season if we cannot land Hakimi, which it appears we can’t.
Up the Livramento!
