In the midst of unprecedented times at Chelsea football club right now, there is one thing they must ensure that they do, and that is to continue to do the business on the football pitch.
To do this you need a top manager, and there are no doubts that they have this, and easily the best man for the job under these circumstances in the shape of Thomas Tuchel.
But to continue making sure we are getting the results on the pitch, the actual thing that the manager and players CAN control, they need everyone to be fully on board and all pulling in the same direction.
This is why I’m not concerned of the recent news that Andreas Christensen WILL be joining Barcelona this summer as a free agent and the likelihood is that his pre-contract agreement with them will be announced officially very soon. That’s fine, that’s his decision. But for me, I’m actually pleased, because right now it is more important than ever before within the last 20 years that we have players out on that pitch who want to be out there representing, playing, and fighting for Chelsea. We need players who are prepared to have the same desire as the fans to see a positive future for Chelsea FC and realise they are a huge part of that as well.
For me I have always been quite passionate anyway about having players out on the pitch who want to be there. When you are agreeing to join a team midway through a season, then I’m afraid that you aren’t needed here anymore. As I say, it’s fine for Christensen to want a new challenge, absolutely no hatred towards him from me. But there are also no emotions saying goodbye, it’s a simply goodbye Andreas, thanks for your time at the club.
We need to be a strong and collective unit right now to make sure we do all we can to pull ourselves through this period, and then just let the ownership stuff take care of itself. Chelsea already has a family and community feel, they must absolutely use that now, players included.
