Opinion: Chelsea will be just fine in midst of potential takeover

It might not be the same as the last 20 years, but I am not fearing for Chelsea Football Club in the midst of a potential takeover, and I believe we will be just fine.

Roman Abramovich is accepting offers for Chelsea for the first time during his 20 year tenure as owner of the club, and for many, that is a very scary prospect.

It would be amazing if you guys subscribed for my project over at Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, where we are putting out so much Chelsea content including DAILY Newsletters, exclusive news, breaking news, Podcasts, interviews, inside information, and bringing in some massive guests!

Of course it is, Abramovich has done some amazing things for this club and has spearheaded so much success and the catalyst of winning many trophies and being a dominant force in world football. But the thing we must remember here is that Chelsea have existed as a football club since 1905 and they have enjoyed success before Abramovich and can enjoy it after Abramovich, if it comes to it.

Will we see the same success as with Abramovich? Nobody knows, nobody can call that. We cannot judge what type of owners we might get until they are in charge and running the club, so nobody knows what will happen and what will change. But seeing as I prefer to be glass half full here, who is to say that a new owner isn’t going to have the same desire and ambition for the club that Abramovich did?

Yes he has been one of the best owners in football in the last 20 years and I will be devastated to see him leave the club if that happens. But Chelsea will remain a desirable club and we will not be short of rich ambitious owners to keep our success going.

We can never forget what Abramovich did for this club, he literally saved us from the brink of being bankrupt and he will always be appreciated and adored by Chelsea fans. But the situation is the situation and I prefer to look forward rather than back.

We might lose some ‘fans’ I guess, those who only started supporting Chelsea for the success after Abramovich took it over, but if we do, then they are never real fans in the first place.

For someone who started supporting Chelsea in the 80s and consider those times some of the best supporting the club, I have no fear at all about what is around the corner. I am not saying we will go back to how we were then, absolutely the opposite in fact. But we’ve faced hard times at this club and we are still where we are today, it’s always Chelsea over anything or anyone else and we will continue to thrive as a club, I have no doubts.
