OPINION: Diego Costa – like your favourite jacket going out of fashion

You will have all read the interview in The Mail that broke over night, featuring your favourite villain, Diego Costa. I’m not going to regurgitate news here, but the whole situation is exactly what Chelsea do not need right now.

After a disappointing pre-season, a nightmare start to the Premier League season and a dangerously small squad – Chelsea and Antonio Conte seem to have the world against them.

Costa wants to leave the club, he’s wanted to return to his favourite club Atletico Madrid since 2015, this has not been made secret. Naturally, Conte does not want him at Chelsea anymore, neither do the majority of the fanbase. It appears here though, that the controversial Spaniard is now attempting to turn this situation on its head, blame the club and seek sympathy. I’m not buying it.

We need players who fight and love the badge and club they are representing, we need stability, we need less controversy. Costa still being at the club, only fuels negativity.

The man is lingering around the Club, holding on. The situation is like when you spend £100 on a brand new jacket, you love that jacket and you appreciate what it’s done for you. Then two years down the line it’s battered, torn, gone out of fashion and no longer doing it’s job, the love affair has died off and it’s time for both sides to part ways.

This situation must be sorted and it has to be now. We cannot go on with this hanging over the club. The negativity, the media bashing, the alleged lawyer involvement – none of this is wanted. It’s an added problem when Conte and the club need to be focusing on winning matches. I just struggle to see how this will be resolved right now, but it needs to be.
