Opinion: Don’t write off Ruben Loftus-Cheek for a Chelsea comeback

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been one very unlucky football player so far in his short career, suffering a major confidence knocking achilles injury just when he was really hitting some great form and showing his full potential.

I remember the 2018 World Cup and England getting to the semi-finals. Loftus-Cheek was England’s most exciting and creative player, he bossed a number of the games in midfield and played with confidence and belief.

Under Maurizio Sarri before his bad injury, he was doing exactly the same thing, and you can see just how much he was liked by Sarri with all the rumours linking him to wanting to sign Loftus-Cheek at Lazio this summer.

But I don’t think he will be leaving Stamford Bridge just yet, I think we owe it to him to give him one last chance to make his comeback, and I have full belief and faith that he will do just that.

Thomas Tuchel is an admirer of Loftus-Cheek and he wants to see him in pre-season, according to CFCNewsPage who released his latest transfer news column on Si & Dan Talk Chelsea today.

He says there is a ‘good chance’ that Loftus-Cheek makes it in Tuchel’s Chelsea squad this season, and I believe that would be a decision he would not regret.

Loftus-Cheek is similar to Andreas Christensen, he is a confidence player. But just look at the form that Christensen is in now since January after playing with full confidence; Loftus-Cheek will be exactly the same after a run of games playing well and holding down some form.

On his day, there aren’t many better more complete midfielders than Loftus-Cheek, the way he drives with the ball with strength and pace, his elegance on the ball, vision, intelligence, and an eye for a goal and an assist.

You’d be foolish to write him off now, and I truly believe he can become an important player for Chelsea, his boyhood club.
