Opinion: Fresh Defender news could be a positive sign for Chelsea

There is some news that could effect Chelsea developing this lunchtime and it could be good news.

With our own centre back situation still being rather up in the air as things stand, another club looks to be sorting theirs out early ahead of the summer.

According to multiple reports on Monday, Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule has a verbal agreement to join Borussia Dortmund this summer when he becomes a free agent.

This could have a significance for Chelsea, as we were one of the clubs strongly linked with potentially wanting to sign Sule as a free agent ourselves, but that doesn’t look like it will happen now.

The fact that as far as we know Chelsea haven’t even made an offer for Sule, could be a positive sign for the Antonio Rudiger situation in particular, as you’d imagine that Sule was more a replacement for him than anything else.

With Chelsea holding fresh talks with him recently and seemingly getting closet o offering what he wants, maybe there is now a strong belief at Chelsea that they might not need to replace Rudiger.

Of course we could still lose both Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta as well, but then if you factor in all the solid rumours saying we are looking to bring in Jules Kounde regardless, then there is the development of Levi Colwill who might come in this summer and get looked at by Thomas Tuchel, would Chelsea really need to sign another centre back as well just yet?

It’s certainly an interesting development to ponder.
