Opinion: Kurt Zouma will end up asking to leave Chelsea this summer

I’ll begin by stating that this is absolutely 100% just my opinion and my prediction, but unfortunately I can only see this happening.

Kurt Zouma will not be happy being a squad player at Chelsea, and under Thomas Tuchel, it is pretty clear that Zouma will not be starting many games other than as rotation – it really is as simple as that.

Tuchel clearly loves Antonio Rudiger, who has even admitted that Tuchel tried to sign him at PSG this summer.

We know how much Tuchel, and quite frankly every person in football massively rates Thiago Silva, who is looking likely to extend his stay for another year at Chelsea.

Another player Tuchel has considered signing in the past? Nope, not Kurt Zouma, but Andreas Christensen!

This is not saying that Tuchel does not rate Zouma, I mean there is every chance he rates him highly. But going off the evidence and the fact that he has been choosing the above players as well as indispensable club captain Cesar Azpilicueta ahead of Zouma right now, I think that says a lot.

Then you have the Fikayo Tomori situation, Marc Guehi, Ethan Ampadu – A lot of centre backs at Chelsea already and that is even before all the public talk of Chelsea pursuing a new centre back.

So all of this evidence is building up against Zouma’s Chelsea future, and as I touched upon earlier in the article, Zouma will not want to stay at Chelsea unless he is getting regular football.

So unless something drastic changes from now until the summer, I think we might see Zouma asking the board for a transfer away from the club.

Now, Zouma is contracted at Chelsea until 2023, and we know the board are admirers of him and love his attitude and commitment, as reported on The Si Phillips Talks Chelsea Podcast last week.

And remember, it was only a few weeks ago that there was reports from strong sources of Chelsea discussing a new contract with Zouma, which has since gone quiet…

But you’d imagine that if he isn’t playing, and a good offer came in, they will be tempted to cash in.
