Chelsea were left frustrated by a weakened Arsenal team at Stamford Bridge as the Carabao Cup tie is all square going into the second leg.
The Gunners line-up didn’t feature Mesut Ozil whilst Alexis Sanchez came on in the second half.
Arsenal sat back as the Blues had a notably stronger team but couldn’t break the opposition’s barrier down.
The best chance of the first half for Chelsea was a Cesc Fabregas header that went straight into the hands of goalkeeper David Ospina.
In the second half, the champions continued to force the initiative but more robust defending from Arsenal kept the home side at bay.
Andreas Christensen got into good positions when going up for corners but failed to take his chances. Marcos Alonso had some strikes from long range but Ospina was level to everything Chelsea threw at him.
It was a frustrating night once again for Alvaro Morata whose confidence has declined since the form he showed earlier this season.
The Spaniard desperately needs to find that goalscoring touch as our main man upfront.
Chelsea had a late penalty shout dismissed by referee Martin Atkinson who later used VAR to confirm it wasn’t a penalty.
Overall, Antonio Conte’s side created plenty of chances. However, Arsenal found us too predictable in the final third hence why we couldn’t break the deadlock.
Here are our Chelsea player ratings from a disappointing evening:
