Teddy Sheringham got his call on Garnacho & Chelsea wrong – opinion

Teddy Sheringham

Manchester United's striker Teddy Sheringham celebrates scoring United's second goal against Middlebrough, during their FA Carling Premiership match at United's Old Trafford ground in Manchester. Final score: Man Utd 2 Middesbrough 1.

We don’t hear much from Teddy Sheringham these days, do we?

A fine striker in his day, and I always thought it was very admirable how he played at a professional level until he was into his 40s. He was a very good player when he played and played for Manchester United and England as well as Tottenham, West Ham, and Nottingham Forest to name a few.

He’s not really gone into punditry since retiring. But what we see these days is 100s of betting sites around with new ones popping up every day. And what is seemingly part of their marketing tactics is getting former players in for interviews to try and get their site names out there.

Anyway, that is why we are hearing from Teddy Sheringham this week, and he’s been speaking about Alejandro Garnacho’s move to Chelsea.

‘I think Alejandro Garnacho is a very talented player, but only time will tell whether he’s able to be a success at Chelsea,’ the former United and England striker said.

‘He will have been disappointed not to get off the bench in the game at Old Trafford. He made a big move in leaving Manchester United for Chelsea, and it’s not one I would have advised him to make if I were a part of his team.

‘When you’re at United you have to try your utmost to make it work.

‘It is the biggest club in the world, so you won’t be leaving for a better club, and the opportunity to come back won’t be there, especially with the manner in which he left and the way the fans have reacted to it.’

All I’ll say on this is, behave, Teddy, behave chap…
