Why Jamie Carragher is talking sense on Chelsea for once – opinion

I agree with Jamie Carragher, I also do not think that Enzo Maresca will be Chelsea manager come next season.

I don’t always agree with Carragher, but I also do think that sometimes he probably does get a little bit too much stick for saying what he thinks.

Anyway, he’s made some very good points on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports this week.

He said:

“The one thing you can’t throw at Maresca is, he’s not capable at this level. We’re talking about Man United tonight and Ruben Amorim, and there’s still that question mark, is he capable of coaching at the highest level against the best coaches in the Premier League? We don’t know. I wouldn’t say that about Maresca. When you look at his record, it’s fantastic what he’s done.

“Going forward, where can Maresca go that’s better than Chelsea? I’m not sure. Now Chelsea, as a club, will feel we can go and get another manager. They could.

”But when you look at what’s going on at Spurs in the last couple of years, when you look at what’s going on at Manchester United, you can easily go and get a manager who is not at that level.

”Maresca can go up against any manager, as he’s proved; Pep Guardiola, Arne Slot Barcelona, the Champions League, he is more than capable, tactically as a top coach.

“I don’t see Maresca managing at Chelsea next season.”

Who knows if Maresca and Chelsea can go forward together after this. I don’t think they can. I just don’t see it. I think the only way forward is to part ways. Not saying that is what I want, but I just don’t see a way back for the relationship between Maresca and in particular, Paul Winstanley. Unless the owners make a change in the sporting department, which would be a massive shock to me, I can only see one winner.
