New signing Alvaro Morata has been given the number nine shirt ahead of the new season.

Earlier today, Chelsea took to their Instagram account to reveal Morata’s shirt number which will leave a few superstition fans feeling uneasy and slightly pessimistic about the striker’s chances at Stamford Bridge.

In recent Chelsea history, the number nine shirt has brought bad luck to those players who have worn the cursed number, take for example Fernando Torres who failed to score for his new club on the first 14 attempts.

However, Morata will be looking to put an end to this Chelsea curse when he makes his debut for the Blues against Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
