N’Golo Kante made his first ever appearance in a European competition against Qarabag on Tuesday night, and has taken to Instagram to celebrate doing so.

It seems absurd that a player of Kante’s quality, the PFA, FWA and PL Player of The Year, who has won back-to-back Premier League titles and is a regular for the French national team had previously never made an appearance in either the Europa League or Champions League.

However, that’s just how his career has panned out. After his meteoric rise at Leicester City, he earned himself a move to Chelsea. The Blues, as you well know, did not qualify for the Champions League the season prior and thus Kante’s wait went on.

Chelsea are back in the big-time this time around, though, and this season marks the first opportunity for Kante to make his mark on the European stage.

He began to do so against Qarabag as Antonio Conte’s side triumphed 6-0 over the Azerbaijani minnows. After having time to reflect on the game, he shared the below photo on his Instagram page, revealing his delight at making his Champions League debut.
