Chelsea transfer news: Juventus chief insists club will not keep players against their will

Antonio Conte

Antonio Conte has been offered significant encouragement in his pursuit of Juventus left-back Alex Sandro.

The London Evening Standard report that Chelsea are interested in signing the Brazilian. He would be a direct upgrade on Marcos Alonso, who in all fairness has been one of our best players this season.

Sandro does have a leg-up on Alonso in that he is equally as good both offensively and defensively. Alonso has proven himself to be a genuine goal-threat from left-wing-back, but he has defensive frailties that are difficult to overlook.

This is presumably why Conte has looked to secure the services of Sandro, and Juve chief Giuseppe Marotta may have given Conte further hope of signing the 26-year-old during the January transfer window.

Marotta is quoted by the London Evening Standard insisting that if any of Juventus’ players ask to leave, they will not hold them hostage:

“Juventus’ policy is that if a player asks to leave, we won’t hold him back.”

“We know there’s interest from big clubs in Alex Sandro, but at the moment there are no negotiations.”

It remains to be seen whether Sandro would be prepared to push through a move to Stamford Bridge this winter. If he did, though, you would have to fancy our chances of signing him. Let’s wait and see…
