What Xabi Alonso told Bayer Leverkusen scouts to target in a player

Chelsea are working hard to secure players for new manager Xabi Alonso, who has made his desires very clear.

We still have to wait a few weeks for Xabi Alonso to take over officially, but we’re already getting excited about what he could bring to Chelsea.

Alonso told Bayer scouts to target one quality in particular

“The sporting director made the final decisions, as is the case with most Bundesliga sides, but Alonso had input. Especially in the months after his arrival until the summer transfer window, Alonso tried to make it clear towards Leverkusen’s hierarchy that he wanted players with a winning mentality,” a Bayer Leverkusen expert told Football.London.

“That led to the signing of Granit Xhaka and others. Alonso was also able to convince some players, e.g. Nathan Tella and Alejandro Grimaldo, of signing with Leverkusen. His reputation as a former world-class midfielder certainly helped.”

Let’s hope he can do something similar at Chelsea this summer. While he doesn’t officially start work until next month, we’re sure the recruitment team have already been briefed with what he wants.
