At the end of a sleepy week for transfers at Chelsea, the biggest news of the window so far has just dropped.

David Ornstein of the Athletic has just reported that the Blues have reached a verbal agreement with Aston Villa to sign Morgan Rogers. The fee is set to total £117m, and the medical will take place on Monday, with personal terms already agreed.

The 23 year old wants to move to Chelsea after speaking to new manager Xabi Alonso, who has convinced him of the project he’s building at Stamford Bridge. He will now join up with – and directly compete with – his old friend Cole Palmer.

Rogers a huge gamble by Chelsea

Chelsea are not going to be making many big moves this summer – we didn’t expect them to make this one, in fact. This. is a huge financial commitment and bet on Rogers being a truly elite prospect. This fee would break the £116m British record fee, set earlier this summer by Elliot Anderson’s move to Manchester City.

Our restrictions aren’t going anywhere with deals like this – but it’s nice to see a proper first team upgrade in place.

In other news…

Mamadou Sarr has had a bad start at Chelsea, and the club are now looking to get his development back on track with a loan to another Premier League club.

The chatter about Trevoh Chalobah is that he’s close to a move to Como, after the Blues finally agreed a transfer price with the Italian side.
