Chelsea today have completed a deal to sign outstanding teenage talent Honest Ahanor from Atalanta in Serie A.

It’s going to be a busy Deadline Day at Chelsea (aren’t they always?), but while the focus is on midfield and the potential record transfer for Enzo Fernandez, there’s confirmed action in defence.
Chelsea were heavily linked with Honest Ahanor in recent weeks, and they’ve now confirmed it’s a done deal on their official website. The defender has been signed – but won’t officially be a Chelsea player until next summer.
That gives the defender the chance to continue playing and hopefully continue developing. Ahanor can become the second Chelsea player to join Crystal Palace on loan because he’s not technically a Chelsea player until next summer.
Ahanor prepares for Premier League move
The deal to sign the 18 year old has been rumoured to be valued at around £40m. Getting into a Premier League team at 18 is not going to be easy, and we really hope there are serious penalty clauses in there for Palace. Leaving him at Atlanta might have been the safer move – but of course Premier League experience will be far more useful if he can get it.
There was a time when Chelsea’s defensive situation was really blocked up – but moves for Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, Tosin and Trevoh Chalobah have significantly improved that situation, even though a couple of them are loan deals.

In the out tray, Shim Mheuka is on his way to join Celtic on loan.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are trying to work on replacing Enzo Fernandez. An opening bid for Lamine Camara has been rejected by Monaco.
