Chelsea are now being linked with a few incoming players – but their sales will be just as important as the window goes on.

Nizaar Kinsella’s piece for the BBC today about Chelsea’s transfer plans make it very clear that the Blues are going to be doing some serious selling this summer.

The journalist notes that Real Madrid are expected to make a move for Enzo Fernandez, although given the likely size of that offer it’s no surprise it’s taking a while.

But as well as that singular mega deal, there will be other trimming throughout the squad. He reels off a list of five players who could go, besides Trevoh Chalobah who has strong links to a move to Italy.

“Potential departures form part of a wider plan to streamline the squad, with Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Alejandro Garnacho and Liam Delap all facing uncertain futures,” Kinsella wrote.

When you add Chalobah to that list, it’s clear it’s in defence that sales need to be made. It will be very interesting to see which of Badiashile, Fofana, Tosin and Chalobah are left by the start of the season. It will surely prove impossible to sell all of them – but multiple will go.

In other news…

Kinsella also covered the left back situation, where a plan is gradually becoming clear after some surprising links at the weekend.

Granit Xhaka has been dominating the Chelsea transfer news in the last 48 hours – but the main target of last week was a defender.
