There is no doubting that Chelsea seriously bungled the handling of Mamadou Sarr last season.
Having agreed a deal to buy the defender from their sister club Strasbourg last summer, the Blues left him on loan at the French side, where he was a key player and playing regular minutes, despite his young age.
In January, a panic at Stamford Bridge led to the rash decision to bring Sarr back to the mothership. He ended up barely featuring in the second half of the season, damaging his development, while Strasbourg suffered in terms of results as they tried to cope without a starting central defender.
