Chelsea have lodged an official bid for AS Roma left-back Emerson Palmieri, according to Calciomercato.
Palmieri spent some time on the sidelines after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament, but is back fit once again now. As shown with Antonio Rudiger, who was formerly Palmieri’s teammate in Rome, it is possible to recover such a serious injury and come back stronger.
Antonio Conte will undoubtedly be looking to provide Marcos Alonso with some genuine competition at left-wing-back. Kenedy appears likely to go out on loan, perhaps to a Premier League side, and Alonso needs to know that, like every other player in the team, his starting spot is not entirely secure.
Palmieri could be the man to come in and upset Alonso’s equilibrium. Calciomercato report that Chelsea have made their move to sign the Brazlian, lodging a bid worth an initial £17.65M, which could rise to £22M.
With the inflated nature of the modern transfer market, Palmieri appears to be a realistic and affordable option to improve our squad. With the games coming thick and fast, the importance of squad depth cannot be overstated.
