There’s a new name in the mix as Chelsea continue to pursue a new striker this month.
Players such as Andy Carroll, Edin Dzeko and even Peter Crouch have been linked with the Premier League champions in recent weeks. The profile of striker Antonio Conte is after is clear – he wants to sign a target man.
That is reflected once more in the Times‘ report, which claims that Chelsea have lodged an enquiry to Leicester City over the possibility of taking Islam Slimani on loan until the end of the season.
It is claimed that Leicester City are not particularly keen on loaning out the Algeria international, but would be prepared to part with him on a permanent basis if the price was right.
Alvaro Morata certainly needs help carrying the goal-scoring burden, but the calibre of players that we’re targeting are not going to be able to provide that assistance. We ought to ditch this short-term thinking and sign a striker who is going to be able to make a genuine impact in the first-team.
