Major movements are underway in Chelsea’s midfield. Andrey Santos is about to join Manchester United for £50m, and Enzo Fernandez is clearly still keen to leave the club despite Real Madrid making a statement that they won’t be pursuing him.
Meanwhile an attempt to sign Sunderland veteran Granit Xhaka, a favourite of new manager Xabi Alonso, has failed.
Chelsea set to invest in midfield with or without Enzo sale
Bobby Vincent of Football.London has taken a look at the options available to the team this summer, pointing out that a departure for Enzo Fernandez would leave the Blues “a lot of money to play with in the transfer market.”
But whether they sell him or not, Santos’ departure will mean a new addition is likely. It doesn’t seem that Valentin Barco, who will arrive from Strasbourg, is the only new name.
“Either way, Chelsea are considering their options when it comes to adding a new central midfielder before the end of the summer transfer window,” Vincent concluded.
We expect some new names linked with Chelsea to start circulating in the days and weeks to come.
