Chelsea consider adding France midfielder after World Cup elimination

Chelsea are being liked with Roma midfielder Manu Kone as they consider replacing Andrey Santos, who has left for Man U.

There are big questions about Chelsea’s midfield plans after they sold Andrey Santos to Manchester United.

The Blues have Enzo Fernandez (who now looks likely to stay) plus Moises Caicedo as their first choice pair. Dario Essugo and Romeo Lavia are the second pair, then there’s a cluster of youth team talent able to provide depth beyond that.

The sale of Santos seems to indicate that the club are happy with that selection – but that hasn’t stopped rumours connecting the Blues with big new signings.

Even without European football to play, we’re not sure how we feel about Chelsea going into the season with this midfield selection. Lavia can’t be relied upon to stay fit, and Essugo is still an unknown quantity in the Premier League.

Kone may not be the answer, but at the right price we could certainly do worse than a full France international who has looked good in Serie A.

In other news…

Diogo Costa has once again been linked with a move to Chelsea – but we’re yet to be convinced that the club have changed their plans.

Strasbourg are getting into gear for this summer, and they have two sales ready to go which could generate unprecedented revenue for them.
