Chelsea’s interest in Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix has been well reported in recent weeks – but finally we’re getting some concrete details on where things stand.
The Daily Mail’s report on the deal claims that Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali met Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish in New York at the weekend as both were in town to watch the World Cup final.
It is “understood” that Chelsea were offering £55m, but may have to go as high as £60m if they want to land the 26 year old.
Chelsea have number one target locked in
It’s pretty clear at this stage that France international Lacroix is Chelsea’s prime defensive target. He’s at peak age, he’s Premier League experienced and physical. He ticks all the boxes, and we would not be surprised if they end up paying not just the £60m that Palace are said to want right now, but perhaps a little more on top of that too when all is said and done.
Right now the priority is completing the deal to sell Trevoh Chalobah to Como, a deal that should give us a solid £35m cash injection to get serious over Lacroix.
