Chelsea have yet to make a really big splash in the transfer market this summer, and we’re all waiting for that. However there’s also some more prosaic work to be done.
That includes signing up a new third choice goalkeeper, and by all accounts it looks like the club will be using the typical modern tactic of getting an older, homegrown player in to fill their quotas. According to our writer Simon Phillips, they’ve already been in contact with one option.
Chelsea could be rejected by goalie who prefers lower league action

Phillips says that Chelsea have contacted former Southampton player Alex McCarthy about signing up in recent weeks.
The 36 year old is a free agent, and could get an easy payday at Stamford Bridge. But it sounds like he may not be up for it. Phillips sources say that McCarthy still prefers a role where he can start regularly, even further down the league. He “hasn’t rejected Chelsea yet,” but is looking at what other options he has.
Chelsea’s plan is to move on Gaga Slonina and Filip Jorgensen, although there has yet to be many convincing links for eitehr.
