Chelsea have a lot of work to do clearing out their unwanted squad players and finding loans for their talented youngsters in these final weeks before the transfer deadline. One by one they’re ticking them off the list, however, and today we’ve had confirmation of another move.
Reggie Walsh, who played for the first team under Enzo Maresca as a 16 year old and started for Xabi Alonso in our first preseason game this summer, has secured a move to Wigan in League One.
Bigger, stronger Walsh heads out to League One loan

Still just 17, Reggie is really going to be tested moving into the mens’ game – but he’s shown in his senior cameos so far that he’s ready. He’s grown about 5 inches since his debut, and looks significantly more physically prepared for the battles he will face in midfield for the Latics.
It will also give us a chance to remember Reece James’ move to the same club all those years ago – that was when we really started to realise how special he was. Wigan are expected to have a tough season, and this will be very character building for the youngster.
Good luck Reggie – we will be watching.
In other news…
Even with Walsh gone there are another 10 or so players Chelsea need to deal with before the deadline, with loans and sales expected in a flurry in the weeks to come.
Benoit Badiashile has been filmed leaving his medical in Naples as he prepares to sign for Napoli on loan.
