One move we’ve been hearing about for weeks – but haven’t seen much action on – is the potential signing of Maxence Lacroix. The Crystal Palace has been touted as our number one centre back option, but despite lots of course reporting that we want him, no real progress seems to have been made – and now we could pay the price.
Palace raise prices as interest increases
CaughtOffside had an exclusive yesterday which gave some new details on the progress of the deal. They claim that Crystal Palace have raised their asking price from €55m to €65m or even €70m, which is substantial enough to potentially kill the deal.
“Chelsea have made Lacroix their priority and efforts are still ongoing to get a deal done,” their source said.
“Palace won’t make it easy, though, and their initial asking price of €55m has risen now quite substantially.”
The fact that multiple other Premier League teams – including Arsenal and Man United – are interested, has given Palace licence to ask for more money, and they’re not going to miss that chance.
