- Mateo Kovacic yet to convince Chelsea to sign him permanently.
- Kovacic has a release clause of £262M in his Real Madrid contract.
- Do you think we should sign him, permanently? Let us know @TalkChelsea.
Mateo Kovacic has impressed Chelsea fans with his performances to date, but Standard Sport’s Simon Johnson believes that he is yet to convince the club that he would be a worthy permanent signing.
Kovacic has been used frequently by Maurizio Sarri this term. The Italian appears to be fond of the Real Madrid loaner, even if Ross Barkley has taken his Premier League starting spot in recent weeks.
While Chelsea fans are desperate for us to sign the Croatian on a permanent basis, it doesn’t look as though the club are getting ahead of themselves. Standard Sport believe that the Blues hierarchy have their reservations.
The report claims that Kovacic’s release clause is an eye-watering £262M. Real Madrid are unlikely to demand much more than £50M, but Chelsea are seemingly unsure if he’s worth even that.
This is bizarre to us. Kovacic has the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the world and has continually showcased his talent this campaign. In the modern market, £50M would be a steal.
Kovacic doesn’t need to improve, Chelsea need to wake up and realise what a great opportunity we have to sign an incredibly talented player!
