Chelsea have confirmed on the club’s official website that a fee has been agreed for the transfer of Diego Costa subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms.

The London Evening Standard reported earlier in the day that the striker was on the verge of returning to his former side, and the transfer has now been confirmed by both parties.

The Costa saga has dragged on and on. The text message scandal, the no-shows to training, it’s been an absolute shambles. Thankfully, it has now come to a climax, with the Blues confirming that Costa’s return to Madrid is all-but complete.

The London Evening Standard calimed that the two clubs have been in talks for several weeks with Costa making his position unequivocally clear – he wants to return to Madrid. The paper note that Spanish radio station COPE reported Chelsea and Atletico had now found an agreement worth £48.4M, plus £8.8M in add-ons – totalling at £57.2M.

It is claimed by the London Evening Standard that the Premier League champions parted with £32M to secure Costa’s services in 2014, so the sale looks as though it’ll see Chelsea record a profit of more than £25M on a player who clearly has no interest in playing for the club.

Farewell, Diego!
