Well, here’s some transfer news we didn’t expect on a quiet Wednesday morning.
Yesterday we reported on the news that Chelsea were in the process of agreeing a new long term deal for talented young winger Jesse Derry. 24 hours later, Fabrizio Romano has a much more significant update on Derry’s future.
The Italian transfer insider has given his “here we go” treatment for the winger, who will join Sporting CP on loan in a move which truly has come from nowhere. Romano also says that the rumoured new contract is already “done,” which opened the door for this move.
Sporting will cover Derry’s new and improved salary. There is no buy option in the deal, obviously.
Sporting and Chelsea continue new links with loan move

This is a very interesting move for Jesse, who hopefully gets plenty of chances to play.
We are buying Geovany Quenda from Sporting this summer, and Derry will presumably take up his role as a dynamic wing option off the bench. It seems there is a mutually beneficial relationship between Sporting and Chelsea developing at the moment.
In other news…
Liam Delap is a player Chelsea would probably sell at the right price this summer – but the man himself is determined to stick around and show what he can do, despite a dreadful first season.
It’s looking more and more likely that Chelsea sell Andrey Santos this summer – the Blues have set a price for Man U to pay.
