Chelsea have bid for Granit Xhaka, but the sum was so low it’s infuriated Sunderland – perhaps that was the idea.

Transfer guru Alex Crook has been on TalkSport today talking about the Chelsea £8m bid for Granit Xhaka that has caused quite a stir this week.
Crooks claims that the Black Cats are offended by the low ball offer, and have told the Blues to more than triple it if they want to the club captain.
Xhaka deal seems off the table at Sunderland’s excessive asking price

“I was told Sunderland are demanding a fee in excess of £30m to even entertain a Xhaka sale,” Crook explained.
“Sunderland are furious because they told Chelsea he wasn’t for sale, and then Chelsea came back and bid £8m anyway”
Frankly, this looks as though it’s working out perfectly for Chelsea’s sporting structure. They wanted to back their new manager, but didn’t really want to sign a 33 year old.
This way, they’ve shown Alonso they mean business, but can tell him that the numbers Sunderland are asking for are simply too high.
The equation can still change, however, if Xhaka decides to really push for a move and starts to burn his bridges in the North East. It will be interesting to see how things develop after the World Cup finishes.
