Chelsea’s busy week continues – following on from the return of Mykhailo Mudryk and the signings of Danny Welbeck and Valentin Barco, the Blues have just announced the addition of Jordan Henderson.
Henderson was released by Brentford after a year back in the Premier League, and so has been able to join Chelsea on a free transfer.
Chelsea’s pivot continues with more experienced players joining

36 year old Henderson will be the oldest player in the squad, taking Danny Welbeck’s crown after just 48 hours. It’s a clear sign of the changed priorities under Xabi Alonso, who has clearly requested older and more experienced players at the club.
Henderson spoke in his interview with the club’s official website about his respect for Alonso:
“I had huge admiration for Xabi as a player, and now I have huge admiration for him as a manager,” the former Sunderland man said.
“What he’s done over the last few years has been pretty special. Everyone that I know that has either worked with him or played with him has said very good things. Not one person had a bad thing to say about him. That speaks for him very highly.
“Then when I spoke to him, I got a very good feeling that it would be an honour to come and play under him.”
In other news…
Mykhailo Mudryk only became available for Chelsea this week after his doping ban was shortened – but there’s already plenty of interest in taking him on loan.
Another piece of the puzzle fell into place last night, when Chelsea announced they had signed Valentin Barco from Strasbourg.
The attempts to change Chelsea’s “culture” will involve more than just signing experienced players, and Xabi Alonso knows it.
