Chelsea are playing their first friendly of the summer – but in the background, transfer action is still going on at full speed.

Chelsea are playing Western Sydney Wanderers right now, but that doesn’t stop the transfer cogs from turning.

Fabrizio Romano just dropped an update on a player who we’ve only just now noticed isn’t on the bench. Poor Filip Jorgensen only arrived in Australia last week with the group. Now it seems he’s already on his way back to Europe to complete a transfer.

Romano says that Jorgensen is “on the verge of leaving Chelsea to join Strasbourg,” with an “agreement almost done.”

It’s not specified here – but it’s presumably a permanent move. He wants game time, and we want him off the books. Romano adds that the details over the “salary conditions” are still being sorted. But given Strasbourg are our sister club, things shouldn’t be too tricky to resolve.

Jorgensen ready for fresh start in France

It will complete a switch where Mike Penders goes from being Strasbourg’s starter to Chelsea’s backup, and Jorgensen goes the other way. It will give the Danish international a good chance to play regular football again after two years mainly on our bench.

Chelsea spent £20m on Jorgensen – a fee everyone said at the time was inflated. It’s not clear how much we will get back for him.

In other news…

Nicolas Jackson could also be on the way out of Chelsea – but it won’t be on loan to Aston Villa. Fabrizio Romano explained why that is.

The Deal Sheet also looked at Kerim Alajbegovic, the attacker that the Blues are thinking about signing.
