With rumours gathering yesterday that Chelsea are closing in on a deal for veteran striker Danny Welbeck, the need to shift some of the attacking options already on the books at Stamford Bridge has grown even more.
Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu, Liam Delap and Emmanuel Emegha are all on the books, and if Welbeck comes in then probably only one of them will stick around. Fabrizio Romano has popped up today with an important reminder on the future of one of them.
Chelsea and Villa could engage in even more transfer business
Aston Villa have been linked more and more strongly with Jackson in recent days, and Romano confirmed they’ve been interested in him “since May.”
But the insider also gave the important note that there won’t be a loan deal for the Senegal star. Villa have taken Alejandro Garnacho on loan for the season, and that means their quota is done. Any move for Jackson will have to be a permanent one.
That shouldn’t kill the chances of a deal – we’ve just handed Villa £117m for Morgan Rogers, so we know they’ve got money and are looking for a forward. How much they’re willing to pay is the real question.
