The big news at Chelsea today was Xabi Alonso, who took his first press conference at Stamford Bridge.
But in the background, it seems that other deals were being done. Fabrizio Romano has just declared a “here we go” on another youngster. Harrison Bettoni will join on a free transfer from Wigan, signing a contract until 2030.
Bettoni looks to build on miracle debut

This move has come from nowhere, and we really don’t know much about Bettoni. The teenager is an attacking midfielder who was initially trained at Bury before moving to Wigan as an under 13.
There he’s risen through the ranks, making his debut in November last year. His first touch was a free kick which he scored, and he went on to also net the winner and seal a truly memorable first game as a senior pro.
He ended the season with 21 League One appearances, great going for a player of his age. We assume he will play at least one year in the academy, before probably then being loaned out.
Chelsea will pay compensation for the youngster, with the figure decided by a tribunal.
In other news…
Xabi Alonso has been speaking about Enzo Fernandez, and it’s seeming more and more likely that the Argentine plays for Chelsea again next season.
The new manager was asked about what formation his team was likely to play, and while he didn’t give specifics, he made it clear it was something he had already been thinking about.
