Fabrizio Romano has just dropped in to give an update on the situation around Nicolas Jackson, likely the biggest transfer Chelsea will make in the remainder of this summer (barring any last minute Enzo move).
The Blues are demanding £65m for the forward, and don’t want to entertain a loan deal. That means there are very few suitors for the Senegal star. Romano notes that both Tottenham and Napoli had been interested, but were ruled out on the basis that they didn’t want to agree a permanent transfer.
Villa and Atletico in talks over potential £65m deal

That leaves two teams who are “interested and in active talks” – Aston Villa, who are cash rich and desperate for reinforcements after selling the spine of their team this summer, and Atletico Madrid.
Neither will want to pay the full fee for the former Villareal man, but we can see a £50m plus significant sell on and bonus deal being enough to persuade Chelsea as they look to clear the decks. A loan with an achievable option to buy might also work. There are furious discussions behind the scenes.

Aston Villa, keen since August 2025 and still there if Watkins joins Al Hilal; Atlético Madrid also interested and in active talks.
