Everton midfielder Ross Barkley will reject Chelsea in favour of a move to Tottenham in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Star.
The Daily Star report that Barkley travelled to London on deadline day ahead of a £35M switch to Stamford Bridge, but changed his mind at the final moment and decided not to undergo a medical at the club’s Cobham training ground.
The tabloid claim that Barkley felt as though he was being pressured into joining Chelsea, whereas his first choice destination was the Blues’ arch-rivals Tottenham, who did not appear to be in the running to sign him at the time.
However, the Daily Star believe that Tottenham will look to agree a cut-price deal with Everton in January to sign Barkley, as the England international will have just six months remaining on his contract with the Toffees. If the Star’s report is accurate, Chelsea may be forced to look elsewhere.
