According to reports from Germany, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Jonas Hofmann is reportedly under Tuchel’s radar, with the German manager having managed Hofmann during his days first in Mainz and then in Dortmund.
Although the 28-year-old midfielder appeared sporadically for Tuchel during his terms at both the clubs, he nonetheless impressed the tactician with his midfield prowess and skill to dictate play. (DailyMail)
Thomas Tuchel has long been an admirer of Bundesliga talent. The versatile midfielder possesses the ability to function wherever it deems necessary for the greater good – from far on the lines as a winger to the holding centre midfield role to right behind the main striker as an attacking midfielder, Hofmann is flexible as one can be.
In the 3-4-2-1 formation employed by Tuchel this season, the Gladbach star would undoubtedly fit in any of the attacking positions. But, the Blues already possess loads of talent in midfield with the likes of Billy Gilmour, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech among several other important players. It remains to be seen whether a move will materialize as there has been no active movement from both parties.
The past couple of years have witnessed a monumental rise in Hofmann’s playing career. He made his debut for Joachim Low’s Germany national team last year, aged 27.
He has been instrumental in Gladbach’s form this season, pushing the club for a good chance of conquering a place in Europe next season.
With 33 points from 21 games and level with Dortmund – Hofmann will certainly look to propel Borussia’s rise and possibly secure a transfer to one of Europe’s top clubs.
