(Watch) Marcos Alonso brace hands Chelsea victory over Tottenham

Marcos Alonso

Marcos Alonso, what a man.

You could argue that Chelsea are in need of reinforcements at left-wing-back, as Alonso is currently our only option in that position. However, his performance against Tottenham suggested that we need not look any further than the Spaniard currently occupying that role in terms of a starting player.

His first goal was an absolute beauty. He brushed David Luiz and Willian aside, before bending the ball exquisitely over the tall Spurs wall and into Hugo Lloris’ top corner. What a goal.

His second was not quite as good, but far more dramatic. After Michy Batshuayi headed into his own net late on, it looked as though Tottenham could find another and nick it. Alonso had other ideas, finding himself with plenty of space in the Tottenham penalty area and firing the ball low and hard underneath Lloris, and subsequently securing the Premier League champions their first three points of the season.

After the defeat against Burnley, this is exactly what we needed, and we have Alonso to thank for it. Long may his good form continue, once Eden Hazard is fit again, our left-hand-side is going to be incredible.
