Odds have reportedly been slashed on Antonio Conte replacing Jose Mourinho as Manchester United manager.
They do love our sloppy seconds. Juan Mata, Jose Mourinho, Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic. When they’re no longer needed by Chelsea, Man United are ready and waiting to pounce.
United may be able to do the same with Conte. Mourinho is in meltdown mode once again. It’s unclear whether he’ll be able to halt his side’s freefall, or they’ll endure a season like we did in 2015/16.
Inevitably, sack rumours have emerged. With those, attention has turned to who could replace Mourinho in the Old Trafford hotseat. Conte’s name has been mentioned.
The Express report that former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is favourite to take over from Mourinho, followed by Conte.
Conte’s Chelsea were a powerhouse during his debut season, but his methods proved to be unsustainable. It would be quite something seeing a second ex-Chelsea manager take charge of ‘the biggest club in the world‘.
