Liverpool face Real Madrid in Kiev tomorrow evening in the Champions League final. Jurgen Klopp has the chance to swerve a trophyless season and engrave his name into the club’s illustrious history.
There is a widely held misconception that English fans will always back English teams in the competition, even if they are their rivals domestically. That is often not the case. You wouldn’t find us dead cheering on Liverpool, we hope that they get battered.
That is, unless it would benefit us if they were to be triumphant, which unfortunately in this case it will not. Chelsea have no avenue into the Champions League next season, not even if Liverpool play Real off the park and Dejan Lovren bags a hat-trick.
The Blues will be playing Europa League football next term regardless of the result in Kiev. So get your Real Madrid scarves on and pray to whichever god you believe in that Liverpool get annihilated.
