Chelsea great Gianfranco Zola has insisted at Antonio Conte is the right man to lead the current team beyond the end of this season, the BBC reports via The Metro.
Conte has endured a difficult season as the Blues head coach with reports continuing to suggest he’s on his way out of Stamford Bridge.
After a fantastic first campaign for the Italian in winning the Premier League and reaching the FA Cup final, things have gone pear-shaped this time round for the 48-year-old.
When speaking to the BBC, Zola believes that despite the issues around the team, Conte is the best man to turn our fortunes around.
The Metro quotes Zola saying:
“I genuinely think he is a good fit for Chelsea, one of the best coaches around, and as I want the best for Chelsea so hope his stays.
“There are a few issues, but hopefully they solve them.”
Despite still being a fan favourite with the Chelsea faithful, it may be of best interest for the club to part ways with Conte, even if it means a successful end to the season.
However, the memories Conte has shared with the club will never be forgotten by fans.
