Chelsea could make a surprise move to sign AS Roma striker Edin Dzeko during the January transfer window, report the Metro (via Mediaset Premium).
Dzeko is a familiar face in the Premier League having played for Manchester City between the years of 2011 and 2016. During that period he made 189 appearances for the current league leaders, scoring 72 goals and winning two league titles.
Since departing to AS Roma and securing a regular starting spot in the side, something he was rarely guaranteed of in Manchester, Dzeko has hit a new level.
Last term he found the back of the net 39 times in 51 appearances for the Serie A heavyweights. That stunning form may well have landed him on the radar of the Premier League champions.
The Metro cite Mediaset Premium in reporting that Chelsea could make a move to sign Dzeko this month. It is reported that the Blues are also keen on signing AS Roma left-back Emerson Palmieri, so negotiations to poach Dzeko could be held at the same time.
It’s difficult to think of any other realistically attainable strikers in Europe who would be better suited to providing Alvaro Morata with genuine competition. If the price is right, we should look to get this one signed and sealed as soon as possible.
