Chelsea stalwart’s lap of honour poised to end this coming January

Gary Cahill

Gary Cahill’s time as a Chelsea player has effectively come to an end.

Cahill has been influential in recent successes for Chelsea, with the role he played in our Champions League win in 2012 standing out as his greatest accomplishment.

The Englishman also made a crucial last-ditch tackle to deny Oscar Cardozo after Branislav Ivanovic scored in the Europa League final. It’s often forgotten.

Cahill has been an exemplary servant to Chelsea, but all good things must come to an end, and his time has come.

The Guardian report that Chelsea will not be demanding a transfer fee in exchange for Cahill, perhaps as a thanks for his service to the club.

Instead, Cahill will be allowed to leave Chelsea on loan in January. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, he will never pull on the famous blue shirt beyond that.

If this news is true, Chelsea are set to wave goodbye to a true great of the English game.
