Maurizio Sarri has given Chelsea fans an insight into what we could be looking for in the transfer market between now and the end of the week.
Chelsea have signed just one player this summer who is likely to be directly involved in the first-team – that’s Jorginho.
Jorginho, admittedly, was one hell of a signing, and acquiring him ahead of Manchester City was a huge coup.
Is he enough to take a team that finished fifth back to the top of the table, though? We doubt it, even if we do have several players returning to the first-team.
We’d be crazy not to add another player or two to our ranks this week, and Sarri appears to hold the same belief.
Sarri confirmed ahead of the Community Shield that he would like to sign another midfielder before the deadline.
He’s quoted by Team Talk saying:
“I talk with the club about the market but only one or maybe two times, not more. I spoke about positions and characteristics but no names. So, I don’t know. I think we need something, but maybe only a player.”
“We have very good midfielders, but maybe a midfielder with different characteristics [would be a good fit].”
