In his column for The Sun, Premier League legend Alan Shearer has blasted Chelsea for selling Nemanja Matic to Manchester United. He believes that the Serbian has given Paul Pogba all the freedom he needed and that is going to help the Red Devils win the title this season.
“Behind that three [Rashford, Mkhitaryan and Mata] there is, of course, Paul Pogba, who already looks to have greatly benefited from a season bedding back in at the club after he left for Juventus. The arrival of Nemanja Matic certainly looks to have freed him to roam. What on earth were Chelsea doing letting Matic go to one of their big rivals? Ridiculous.” wrote the former Newcastle striker for The Sun.
Chelsea have replaced him with Tiemoue Bakayoko, who joined Chelsea for fee reported by Sky Sports as £40M. The former AS Monaco star debuted against Spurs on Sunday and impressed the Chelsea faithful with his spectacular display.
Jose Mourinho, as quoted by BBC, said that there was ‘something going on at Chelsea’ that had made Matic available. The player’s agent offered him to United and the Red Devils signed him up.
Manchester United paid £40M to sign Matic from Chelsea, as per BBC, and has been in top form for them. He’s started in both their Premier League games in which they won 4-0.
