Chelsea have announced the signing of Olivier Giroud from Arsenal on an 18-month contract.
Giroud made a name for himself during his time at Montpellier. The Frenchman scored 25 times in all competitions in the 2011/12 campaign as the Ligue 1 outfit defied the odds to win the league title.
He earned himself a move to Arsenal, where he became a household name in the Premier League. Giroud has found the back of the net 105 times in 253 appearances for the Gunners, with 73 of those coming in the Premier League.
Giroud may not have proven himself to be the man to lead Arsenal to the Premier League title, but he certainly left his mark at the Emirates, and despite moving to a direct rival, will likely be remembered fondly among the Gunners faithful.
Upon signing for the Premier League champions, Giroud told the official club website of his delight at the move:
“Chelsea is one of the biggest teams in the Premier League. They have won maybe the most trophies in the last six or seven years. It’s a massive club and I am proud to sign for Chelsea, and I’m looking forward to playing.”
