Arsene Wenger has hinted that Mesut Ozil will leave Arsenal at the end of his contract in the summer of 2018, report the Telegraph.
When quizzed on whether he was happy for the German international to be entering the final year of his Gunners deal, the Telegraph quote Wenger, who reveals:
“The transfers are so high even for normal players, you will see more and more players going into the final year of the contract because no club will want to pay the amount demanded.”
The Telegraph have suggested that Wenger’s comments indicate that Ozil could be available on a free transfer next year. From a Chelsea perspective, we should be right in the mix to sign him.
There’s a view held by many that Ozil has not justified his hefty transfer fee during his time at the Emirates, but he remains one of the best no.10s in the world when on song.
There is also a genuine possibility that we wouldn’t have to pay a penny to sign him. That sort of opportunity doesn’t come around everyday.
Whether or not we are interested remains to be seen, but it would be absurd to pass up such an opportunity.
